Boron Team Gathers for Research Retreat in the Cairngorms

In May 2025, the Boron: Beyond the Reagent research team gathered amidst the stunning scenery of Glenmore Lodge in the Cairngorms for the annual full team meeting. The event was a vibrant mix of scientific discussion, collaborative brainstorming, and memorable team-building activities, strengthening the bonds and creative energy that drive the project forwards.

The core of the event was a comprehensive series of scientific talks, with every researcher on the team presenting their latest work. The presentations showcased the incredible breadth of work being undertaken within the work packages, from fundamental boron chemistry to its cutting-edge applications. These sessions provided a fantastic platform for the team to gain a deeper appreciation for each other's work, sparking lively questions and inspiring new avenues for cross work package collaborations.

The formal talks were complemented by invaluable opportunities for informal discussion. Conversations flowed during coffee breaks, communal meals, and into the evenings, allowing ideas to be shared and developed in a relaxed and open environment. A fun team quiz on the first evening brought out everyone's competitive spirit and was a perfect way to socialise and unwind after a packed scientific programme.

The magnificent setting of Glenmore Lodge provided the perfect backdrop for both work and play. On the final afternoon, many team members took to the hills for invigorating walks, exploring the spectacular local landscape. A few of the braver members even took a dip in the nearby loch for a spot of wild swimming.
